In its continuing fight against pollution, the Quezon City government will soon require new building owners to install sewerage treatment facilities to prevent the emission of hazardous emissions from their structures.
Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte asked city building official Isagani Verzosa to facilitate the completion of the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) to be able to enforce the policy at the soonest time possible.
Under the city’s green building ordinance, Belmonte stressed the importance of setting up eco-friendly systems on all Quezon City buildings, emphasizing the goal of encouraging land users and developers to maintain structural standards promoting the use of recyclable building materials, energy reduction and other environmental-friendly techniques.
Belmonte said as a reward, the city government will provide tax incentives to local building owners who use and mount in their structural designs environment-friendly methods as specified under the green building ordinance.
Among those required to maintain and operate a sewerage treatment plant are shopping malls and hospitals that mostly emit harmful toxic wastes.
Verzosa said the city government is in the midst of finalizing the fines, sanctions and other related penalties specified under the IRR for non-complying building owners.
