MANILA, Philippines -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has ordered the transfer of ownership of the Maharlika shopping center, a landmark in Baguio City, from an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture (DA) to the city government, Malacañang said
Arroyo said the Maharlika Livelihood Center, owned by the DA's Livelihood Corp. was "not doing anything" for agriculture, the Palace said in a statement.
The President ordered agriculture undersecretary Doy Salacup to do the paperwork for the ownership transfer before she left Baguio for Manila on Thursday, the Palace said.
"Work on that, because it is not doing anything," the statement quoted Arroyo as telling Salacup.
The President said she wanted the ownership transfer finished by March, when she returns to Baguio for the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) graduation, according to the statement.
The Maharlika center, shaped like an Ifugao hut, is located at the end of Session Road in downtown Baguio. It was formerly owned by the defunct Ministry of Human Settlements.
